Felix Da Housecat's "Kickdrum"

Posted by Dave Segal on Wed, Jun 10, 2009 at 10:24 AM

Felix Da Housecat's new self-produced meta-video for his new meta-track. Initial impression: Meh— but nice bass tone reminiscent of the Shitkatapult, Raster-Noton, and Editions Mego labels' more extreme frequency fuckers.

"Kickdrum" comes in advance of Felix's forthcoming album, He Was King (out Aug. 25 on Nettwerk).

Press release after the cut.

Video for "We All Wanna Be Prince" Coming Soon!

It’s been eight years since Felix Da Housecat broke out of the house music underground with his electro-pop smash, Kittenz and Thee Glitz (2001), joining the ranks of other soon-to-be-legendary electro-rock pioneers such as Peaches, Fischerspooner and Miss Kittin and the Hacker to define a new style of music and ignite a mass movement of dance-rockers and rocked-out DJs. Perhaps it’s no accident that all of these artists are back with new album this year, including our man Felix, who returns with the release of his electronic opus He Was King.

His tenth — and possibly best — album to date, He Was King is another cross-over gem that should appeal to a wide variety of fans. “This is my electronic pop record,” notes Felix. “Whereas Kittenz & The Glitz was straight up electro, He Was King is straight Felix Da Housecat pop with a nice electronic feel.” Packed with club smashes like “ELVI$” and future synth-pop classics such as “We All Wanna Be Prince” and “Spank You Very Much”, it is arguably his most concise, complete work since Kittenz & The Glitz.

He Was King also contains an unabashedly loving nod to his life-long inspiration, Prince, on the track “We All Want to Be Prince.” The video, which is set to drop in July, is a star-studded affair, with cameos from special guests including Dallas Austin.
