Crowd Surfing the Crocodile

Posted by Kelly O on Tue, Jun 16, 2009 at 4:00 PM

The Idle Times/Oh Sees/Jay Reatard show was the most fun I've had at a show in a million years.

I have to ask though, CROWD SURFING: Yay or Nay?
Shit = crazy. I was sure someone was gonna break their baby neck...

Crowd surfing is perfectly acceptable and fitting at a large outdoor festival featuring something like Pearl Jam.

If I went to a show at the Crocodile and someone started surfing, I would punch them in the kidneys. Nothing personal and I'm not joking -- have done this at El Corazon. Shit is amateur 15-year-old garbage, get the fuck out of small venue shows with it.

So Nick, would you punch Jay Reatard in the kidneys? Cause he crowd surfed last night.

Perhaps you should watch this video first before you answer that.

Meh? Crowd surfing is fine in moderation.

You're god damn right I would. Fuck Jay Reatard.

And I can't watch videos, but I'm assuming that's the clip of him punching some fan who grabs his shirt? Fuck that guy and fuck crowd surfing.

nay. it's not fair to force people to choose between touching a stranger's sweaty ass or letting them fall and break their neck.

4 - it's not like someone threw them up on top of the crowd. The fucking idiots climbed up there themselves so it's their damn fault.

It's okay only if you're the performer. If you're just some 17 year old dipshit kid kicking me in the head while I try to watch Superchunk, I steal your shoes and maybe your wallet. Dipshit.

I like stagediving at crazy hardcore and/or metal shows.

I do not so much care for people crowdsurfing in the Pearl Jam sense of the word.

I love it at a packed show when the singer jumps out into the crowd with the mic and everyone holds them up and sings a long--like many punk and hardcore shows or bands like The Bronx or Murder City Devils. But I don't want to be forced to hold up some random sweaty dude or get his boot kicking me in my face as he flails around drunk above me.

Hey good news!

Stage diving will get you 86ed from most Seattle clubs.

"Hey you kids, get off my lawn."

I love when people crowd surf. It brings more energy to shows, and it's easy enough to step aside and avoid having to catch the person if you don't want to. But I grew up in a place where people moshed & surfed to Lush, so I guess maybe it's a nostalgia thing for me.

Although I saw some poor young drunk kid get seriously hurt when he stage dived at El Corazon on his birthday and no one caught him. That really brought the mood down.
