Finding a Silver Lining…

Posted by Megan Seling on Thu, Jun 25, 2009 at 4:27 PM

Michael Jackson’s death has put to rest the controversial man he had become. For right now, all skeletons have been released from the closet and all alleged sins have been forgiven.*

The world can now unabashedly celebrate a man who made some of the best goddamn pop music history has ever known, and tonight we should all motherfucking dance. If you know of any Michael Jackson tribute sets/dance parties happening around the city tonight, let us know about them in the comments.

RIP, Michael Jackson.

*Statement only valid for the next 12 hours—the internet moves quickly and it is an unforgiving place.

Wha? Does anybody actually suggest that his later craziness diminishes the quality of his classic works? That is an unsound argument. (Clearly his output went downhill as he got older, but that's an entirely separate issue from the alleged child molestation.) We can appreciated MJ the freak and MJ the freaking genius without any affected moral conflict.

@4 - Thank you! Not to mention the affect his work had on most of our childhoods, which has almost nothing to do with who he was as a person, especially later in life.

Moonwalker was my favorite movie as a child. I used to try to do the "lean" from the "Smooth Criminal" video all the time. With no success.

I dunno @4 and @6, for the last 10 years or so, when I've heard the words "Michael Jackson", I've thought "batshit-crazy child-toucher" before I thought "genius musician". I guess it doesn't make his music any worse in my mind, but it DEFINITELY adds some context that clouds the original rosy picture a bit.
