THE BIG TAKEOVER’S JACK RABID TO LAUNCH
RABID IN THE KENNEL: A BRAND NEW INTERNET RADIO SHOW SET TO AIR ON JULY 6TH
THE POSIES SCHEDULED TO BE THE SHOW’S FIRST FEATURED ARTISTS!
Brooklyn, NY: Jack Rabid, the longstanding and beloved proprietor of The Big Takeover magazine, an alternative music publication 29 years in existence, spearheaded a well-trafficked Internet radio program on BreakThru Radio (BTR), henceforth copping the moniker, “DJ” Jack Rabid.
Now, with the show in its second year, Rabid is about to pull something else out of his hat. Loosely, and perhaps inadvertently, modeled after the UK’s seminal John Peel Sessions, The Big Takeover on BreakThru Radio, http://breakthruradio.com, is now set to launch RABID IN THE KENNEL, an hour-long interview and performance showcase, on the first Monday of every month, fully conducted from The Kennel Recording Studio in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn—home base of notable producer Wharton Tiers (Sonic Youth, Helmet, Dinosaur Jr).
Rabid says of the new show, “I’ve often heard from our readers that they would like to hear, and not just read, some of my interviews I’ve conducted the last 30 years, and I’m thrilled that after all that time, they will get the chance to do just that. Even better, the opportunity to bring my favorite artists into session to produce absolutely live, no overdub recordings in a state of the art studio as good as The Kennel, was just too tantalizing to pass up. I couldn’t be more pleased!”
The very first Rabid In The Kennel session, airing at noon on Monday, July 6th, will feature veteran indie rock icons, The Posies. An undeniably influential force in the American DIY underground for two decades (despite their breakup in 1998), the band, much to the glee of longtime fans, reformed and released a brand spankin’ new album, Every Kind Of Light on Rykodisc in 2005 and have remained together since.
Between 1998 and 2005, “the Posies had everything that a band that runs the course of its career usually ends up having: a live album, a greatest hits, a box set,” explains guitarist Jon Auer. “Somewhere along the line of getting those things together with each other, we became an acoustic duo again—which is how we started playing, 23 years ago. So in essence, we returned to our roots—to use a much-abused phrase—and things just grew exponentially from there.”
On July 6th, the listener can expect DJ Jack to mine further insight, such as one can find within the pages of his Big Takeover magazine, into the then-and-now machinations of this truly special group when he chats with Auer and Ken Stringfellow, before setting them about what they do best—making brilliant rock music.
The featured artist for August’s show will be punk-rock legend T.V. Smith of Adverts fame (“Gary Gilmour’s Eyes”), and the program is still booking into the fall. Mirroring Rabid’s impeccable and diverse palette, one can anticipate a wide variety of artists from all over the musical spectrum and from all levels of profile.
And in addition to Rabid In The Kennel’s revolving door of premiere artists, the show is accepting submissions from unsigned and independent artists from all over the musical map to be considered for a session. For details, visit http://www.rabidinthekennel.com
Starting July 6th, people can hear the show via a link on the aforementioned site. The RITK site will also be maintaining an archive of past shows, as well as exclusive photos and video from the sessions.
