This Doesn't Sound Promising At All...

Posted by Megan Seling on Mon, Jun 29, 2009 at 12:54 PM

First of all, the Killers are going to do a covers album.

Fine. I usually hate it when bands do covers albums unless that band is Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, but whatever. Do a covers album, Killers, I don't care.

But what's this... what do they say they might cover? According to NME.com, the band's drummer "cited acts including 'Genesis, Tom Waits, a little Cyndi Lauper, Iggy Pop' as his preferred choices for the album, adding that he's also been 'messing around with a couple of Fleet Foxes songs' recently."

Dear God, no.

Killers = CRAP

Speaking of Genesis/Phil Collins - I like the Postal Service cover of Against all Odds.

Certainly not Peter Gabriel-era Genesis though, right?

to be quite honest, the killers' cover of 'romeo and juliet' is quite great.

@3: lol, The Killers "Last Supper" -- all of it.

and I like how Cyndi Lauper got the qualification "a little Cyndi Lauper"... not a full cover, just "a little" cover.

It's fun to overanalyze, but the Killers (as much as I like a couple of their singles) have always been an easy target.

I fail to see how 2004's overexposed media machine covering songs by 2008's overexposed media machine (local though they may be) is of any concern. I always thought of The Killers as a New Order/Flock of Seagulls/The Chills cover band anyway.

yeah, that band is basically a cover band as is. seriously, I got to see them play once and before a song they said they were going to play their "Duran Duran song". without any irony... and it was an original. besides the Fleet Foxes being considered (ugh) this is barely newsworthy and the fact that a person defending Me First and the Gimme Gimmies is complaining makes all the less relevant.

I thought their last record was a U2 cover album.
