I'm Not Sure How I Feel About This

Posted by Megan Seling on Thu, Jul 2, 2009 at 2:16 PM

Travis Morrison, (sometimes) talented songwriter and (always) fantastically entertaining frontman of the Dismemberment Plan, has retired from music.

Guess that D-Plan reunion I keep hoping for is never gonna happen, huh? Then again, I won't have to be disappointed by another uninteresting solo record either. Travistan was a stinker. But it seemed that things were starting to go back in the right (listenable) direction with the Hellfighters. Oh well, I guess we'll never know.

Sigh.

I want to do a hoax 33 1/3 of "Travistan" that constantly hypes the record with fake press quotes making it sound like the best album released in the past twenty years and sneak these into bookstores, libraries, and Amazon. Not that it was any good but it would be so funny if there was a random contrarian opinion out there; I wonder if some people would start a "lost classic" movement for it!

It's by no means as bad as the horrible hype around it.
Just shows you that if Pitchfork decides to pick a fight, people put more merit into that then making up their own mind about it.

a girl i loathe (but at one point, was friends with) made me the Worlds Worst Mix Tape in 2002.

most songs were cut off, there was no track list, some songs skipped. she violated all of the rules.

but this song, the lone gem, always stood out. i remember driving around the methow valley during my year of americorps listening to this song. so thanks, alexys from santa rosa, for not being a total failure at mix tapes.
