Tonight at the Vera Project, accomplished music writer and all around awesome lady Jessica Hopper will be reading from her new book, The Girl's Guide to Rocking: How to Start a Band, Book Gigs, and Get Rolling to Rock Stardom.

As you might glean from the book's cover, if you're reading this blog, this book is probably not meant for you—you're already enough of a music nerd, probably have a band or three already, and, to do a little amateur demographing here, are not likely a young girl wondering how to rock. But! Maybe you have a little sister? A niece? A goddaughter who desperately wants to make a sound? This book is for them. Anyway, tonight's reading is all-ages, starts at 7:30pm, and will likely include Qs and As and maybe some book signings if you're the type of person who would like the autograph of the critic who irked the Locust into switching from skinny jeans to bug suits (and of course you are):

What is the rationale behind the costumes?

JP: The uniforms came from the critics who had a lot to say about how we looked when we did in fact look like a "regular" type band. It was "journalists" like Jessica Hopper saying that we had this sort of image that we were concerned with. You know, talking about our jeans and shit. So we took that situation and added irony and absurdity to it. We morphed from furry vests and goggles to full body suits.

oh yeah... back when the best looking band of the late 90's/early aughts became the band most likely to be mistaken for getting "lost on the way to the comic convention". gotta thank her for aiding that boner move.
