This morning I got an advance copy of the Cave Singers' new album, Welcome Joy, and I've been lost in a daydream since I started listening to it two hours ago. It's been the best daydream I've had in a long time, one that involves renting an old convertible and taking off to drive down dusty, abandoned highways in the South.
Who's coming with me?
The evening sun will beat against our skin while we cruise down the road blasting the harmonica-heavy "Leap," and we'll stop off at swimming hole and splash around in slow motion during "Hen In the Woods." The warm, relaxed "Beach House" will play and we'll sit in the grass and drink some sweet tea (you can spike yours with a little whiskey if you'd like), and then, when the joyful "Jangle" comes on, we'll dance in the dusk as the fireflies come out, then we'll fall asleep under the stores, as "Townships" relaxes our bones. And it will be the best day we've ever had.
This record is fixing everything right now.
