LA producer Nosaj Thing (aka Jason Chung) is playing Neumos tomorrow as part of a Decibel-sponsored bill featuring Glitch Mob and Daddy Kev. While Glitch Mob will pull in most of the fans, Nosaj Thing is the artist I'm most interested in checking. His productions combine disjointed, post-Dilla funk beats with the lush, beautiful melodic and unusual, exotic textural touches reminiscent of IDM stalwarts like Plaid and Clark.
Nosaj is associated with an unfuckwithable crew of mischievous beat scientists—Flying Lotus, Gaslamp Killer, DJ Nobody, Daddy Kev, etc.—who hold down the Low End Theory weekly, which put on some of the most riveting club nights during my brief time living in Southern California. Seek Nosaj Thing's Drift album (Alpha Pup) for some of the most sophisticated electronic music being made in the USA.
