Soundtracks for Stoners

This weekend brings Hempfest, the world's largest annual gathering of hemp advocates, marijuana-decriminalization activists, and potheads that will take over three Seattle waterfront parks (Myrtle Edwards Park, Elliot Bay Park, and the Olympic Sculpture Park) both Saturday and Sunday. In advance of the grassy bash, I present you with a long-yet-kinda-arbitrary-and-far-from-conclusive list and ask:

What is the best record to listen to while stoned?

Berate me about the 1,001 crucial options I neglected to mention in the comments.

IF I CAN'T GET HIGH AND LISTEN TO RUSH, LIFE ISN'T WORTH LIVING.

Also why isn't The Daily Show or Conan on this list?

One of the best times I've had involving music and weed was eating a bunch of brownies, then driving all over Bellingham (the hills and curves! great topography for the driving-while-body-high) while blaring Loveless.

Riz! Funkadelic's 'Maggot Brain' was on my proto-list, but I never thought of a Parliament record, probably because they're so goofy and fun, which is exactly why they should be on this list. (Another goofy-funk runner-up: Rick James' Street Songs....)

Aretha Franklin's Let Me Into Your Life or Joni Mitchell's Blue or Abbey Road

I settled on Can after being tempted mightily by both Tricky and My Bloody Valentine.

Radiohead seemed an odd choice. I suppose I've had a stoned interlude with Radiohead now and again, but the content on Kid A strikes me as too depressing for that state.

Bitches Brew and Kind of Blue canceled each other. If only you'd held out The Futuristic Sounds of Sun Ra, I might have gone jazz.

Best stoner listening probably not in your collection: Heavy International by the Eternals.

Really the best is to listen to virtually ANY MUSIC ALBUM and for visuals put on VINTAGE HOME MOVIES (transferred from reel-to-reel film to dvd). Best ever.....

Molecule 19
Definitely The Orb and Orbvs Terrarvm is the best - the 13 minutes of 'Slug Dub' alone make this a great album to zone to

I was sure Electric Wizard would be on this list. Or Fu Manchu. Or Kyuss, Boris- something stoner-rockery like that. Personally, I'll second "The Mollusk" by Ween.

What about Talk Talk: Spirit of Eden/Laughing Stock? Incredible...

@8 Yes! Smile was written when poor Brian was obviously high, so it should be enjoyed in the same state.

@16 Meddle outstrips Dark Side by far.

I don't smoke pot, but I'd go for Funkadelic and Hawkwind's s/t debuts... which are also highly suitable for ac*d trips, btw.

Definitely down with Radiohead and Lush. My most recent favorite Reggae album is a killer Trojan Records compilation, "Jonny Greenwood is the Controller."

Jus' about anything sounds good when I'm really stoned.

@42..but it's such a raw emotional albumn...Steve Albini's wife had an affair with his audio engineer? I think and that fueled it all.

Used to be my race day music when I was a MTBike racer..

Don't smoke anymore...but Lou Reed Transformer is BY FAR what I'd reccomend...if I did

This is a sad f&@king song!

@42 - except possibly tripping on mushrooms at a seedy Portland titty bar while a stripper dances to "Prayer to God".

true story.
