The Caves Singers Welcome Welcome Joy

I suppose it was fitting that it was about 800 degrees in Easy Street Records last night, as the Cave Singers rang in the release of their new record Welcome Joy, because (as I've said before) listening to the Cave Singers music takes me to a warm, summery place. In my mind I'm not usually sweating bullets while standing still, but whatever. It was the CD release party the band deserved, with tons of people and lots of love from the audience.

Hundreds of people were crowded in the Queen Anne store's aisles. I got stuck in the far back (in the comedy/spoken word section) so I could only see the top half of singer Peter Quirk's face for most of the show, but it was still a great performance. The band opened with "At the Cut," the hardest rocking tune on the album. They played "Leap," "Beach House," and "Summer Windows," while members of the audience fanned themselves with folded up fliers and promotional postcards. Afterwards they hung out to sign posters and records—Easy Street's Bob Major says they did great first-day sales for the boys.

Much deserved. That record is fantastic.
