Death Cab for Cutie Pen First Single for New Moon

Death Cab for Cutie's "Meet Me on the Equinox" will be the first single from the New Moon soundtrack and will premier on MTV September 13. I never read any of the Twilight books, never saw the movie, and I find Kristen Stewart to be exceptionally boring, but still, it's pretty cool that the series keeps up its Northwest pride by showcasing a Northwest band on the movie's soundtrack.

The band's bassist, Nick Harmer, tells MTV about writing the song: "Basically the 'Twilight' series is about love, and that's a major theme for us. So, it wasn't difficult for us at all."

(Sidenote: I think it's hilarious that, in the comment thread of this article on MTV.com, "real" DCFC fans are boasting about being a fan for "about five years" and getting all riled up about how this will bring new attention to "their" band and result in a lot of "fake" fans. I SAW THEM OPEN FOR JUNO IN 2000 AT THE KIRKLAND SENIOR CENTER. FUCK OFF N00BS. Ahem. Congrats, boys!)
