Last Night's Black Flag Cover Set In Numbers

Posted by on Sat, Sep 12, 2009 at 8:57 AM

Number of broken windows: 1

Number cop cars that showed up to take away the drunk guy who started a fight, got thrown out, and then angrily broke said window: 2

Number of Black Flag songs members of Akimbo, Black Elk, and Tad Doyle played: about 15

Number of times the band blew a fuse during the 45 minute set: 4

Number of times they played "TV Party": 0 (not surprising)

Number of times the same guy yelled out for them to play "TV Party": 10

Number of young men who snuck into the show through the side door and were immediately plucked out of the mosh pit and 86'd by the Comet's staff: 5

Holy shit, that show ruled.

Jesus Christ. That thing was like a Line Out convention.

Black Flag are one of my favorite bands ever. They really mean a lot to me, so I was pretty skeptical going in, but those guys did a great job. Near-flawless set list. They didn't play any bad songs, but they could have easily added a few more great tunes. Then again, I'm a huge fan of the Rollins Black Flag, so I don't know if very many people would have been as stoked on "Nothing Left Inside" or "What Can You Believe" as I would have.

My favorite part was when the fuse blew after the third chorus of "Black Coffee." It was like the electricity gods way of saying. "This is a great song, but it's too long. Let's end it here."

My favourite current local band covering my favourite band of all-time. Good times.

I went to the PDX show too. And while it was also really fun, Seattle definitely went off a little harder.

@1 - I'm also more into Rollins-era Flag, I would have been really stoked to hear those songs (and "My War," "I Love You," "The Bars," "Can't Decide," etc.)

@3 Yeah, I was actually surprised that they didn't play "My War." Was it the same setlist in Portland?
