Will He Get the Ball Over the Plate?

Posted by on Tue, Sep 15, 2009 at 6:56 PM

In about 10 minutes, Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard is going to throw the first pitch at the Mariner's game.

My friends are thinking he won't get it over the plate. That was my initial reaction too, but you know, the guy is a big baseball fan. If I remember correctly, when he was growing up, he wanted to be a pro ball player (I'm not sure how I know that). So I think he's gonna surprise us.

The game, against Chicago White Sox, starts at 7 pm.

It's in the banter on the one of their live eps. Gibbard was, at least once, somewhat athleticish. Oh and he competing in some kind of bullshit local hipster rock band baseball game many moons ago under the name "Dees Nutz". So there you go. Meant for baseball. How'd he do?

I heard he pitched a pretty nice slider, actually! I tried to catch in on TV, but they didn't show it (as far as I saw), because they also had a little video montage to celebrate Ichiro's second 200 hit season.

He threw a SICK slider. Ryan Rowland-Smith (pitcher) was acting as catcher, so it got by him.
