Last Night DJ Turquoise Wisdom @ Moe Bar

DJ Turquoise Wisdom (aka Zach Cowie, former Sub Pop employee and current LA resident who's part of the Small Town Talk DJ trio with another ex-Sub Pop employee, Jed Maheu) spun a fantastic all-vinyl set of obscure pop, rock, country, soul, funk, and psych at Moe Bar. (Robin Pecknold helped out Zach when the Fleet Foxes singer/guitarist wasn't across the hall at Neumos watching Baltimore shoegazetronic trio Beach House.)

Cowie was in the area for the Sept. 19 wedding of Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard and Zooey Deschanel, at which, Zach said, he played all girl-group and '60s pop 7-inches for seven hours without a break. What a mensch.

Here are but two of the many tracks from Turquoise Wisdom's rarity-intensive crates that made last night a lesson in edutainment and record-geek stimulation.

He was dj-ing between sets at the animal collective and grouper in portland in may of this year. No vinyl only his laptop. He played great stuff but was disappointed he used a computer.
