Mudhoney, Brothers of the Sonic Cloth (featuring TAD), and Unnatural Helpers are slated to play at Neumos Nov. 13 to celebrate the release of the book Grunge by Thurston Moore (text) and Michael Lavine (photos).

Wikipedia nails it with this description/history of grunge—in case you missed out on the movement while it was happening. The online encyclopedia thrusts you straight into the heart of it.

Wikipedia doesn't nail it Segal, that article is more like a mainstream outsider's view of what grunge is. I can't believe Amphetamine Reptile isn't even mentioned. It's really hard to get excited about this book after so many have already covered the topic to death over the years (and there are more in the works). But Lavine always had great photos!

definitely don't need to read a book about grunge written by Thruston Moore. don't care if he did tour with Nirvana "the year punk broke," his style of arty-punk-whatever never really did it for me.

...let me know when someone from one of the major bands OF THE GENRE writes a book. till then, i'll pass.

I think someone is writing, or possibly already published, more of a Please Kill Me-style book about Seattle rock with tons of interviews/quotes from most of the bands, it might be more your thing #5. Unfortunately those things always seem to focus on bands like Pearl Jam and Alice and Chains though, because the famous bands are gonna sell more copies, rather than the bands that really were more "The Seattle Sound" playing the smaller clubs.
