The Unicorn to Replace the Satellite Lounge

Posted by Eric Grandy on Mon, Oct 5, 2009 at 10:09 AM

As Capitol Hill Seattle blog reported yesterday, a new bar is set to take over the recently vacated Satellie Lounge space near 12th & Pine. The bar will be called The Unicorn, and its proprietor will be longtime Twilight Exit barkeep Adam Heimstadt. The Unicorn will have a "French circus" theme, with stone unicorn statues and carousel parts, will serve pizza, and will have video games and pinball machines. No opening date has been set.

The only proper theme for a place called "The Unicorn" is a magic rainbow wonderland. Lisa Frank-esque!

Great news! The Satellite was one of the only places on that part of Pike where you could actually get a drink on the weekends, was bummed to see it close.

OMG thank GOD. Let's hope they make the new place feel like somewhere you actually want to hang out. I'm not one who like the crazy ass crowds anymore, but goddamn the Satellite's emptiness was uncomfortable and booooooring.

I need to know where you got the source that there would be pinball, as the blog doesn't mention pinball specifically.

Cap Hill SEVERELY lacks *good* pinball.
Most machines on the hill are in terrible shape, save for madison pub, but the prices for pinball there are goddamned criminal.

I heard pinball from one of Heimstadt's partners. I also hear they're hoping to be open by January.

Pinball is in the plan. We have also leased the basement, which is huge, and we are hoping to configure an entrance (kind of like the cha-cha) to enter both upstairs and downstairs. The downstairs will have pinball, arcade, pool (if possible).
The upstairs (existing bar area) will open first, followed by the basement at a later date.
Paul (one of the partners).

@2:

You're kidding, right? "cause there are like 10 bars between Broadway & 13th, not even counting the cross streets.

OTOH, if you meant that it was the only place that was so empty you could get a drink without waiting, then I get your point.

No, wait that's not right. There could be two fucking patrons in that place and it would still take 10 minutes for the server to find you in there...

I can second the pinball thing Grandy says in #7. I'm good friends with Adam. The original plan was to open at a different location and have a bar with MANY pinball machines, using Shorty's as a model, but doing it on The Hill. The place he's moving into now doesn't work as a "grown up" arcade as well, but rest assured that there will be much pinballery at The Unicorn. Also: NY style pizza, a good happy hour, and entertaining people.

So French circuses have stone unicorns, carousels, and pinball machines?

@9: Yeah, I meant it was always empty. We would often go there after practice on the weekends when we just wanted to get some drinks and not deal with the lines lines lines lines.

slowest, worst-service having, yet most boring bar on the hill: RIP. I welcome thee, The Unicorn.
