Your Vampire Weekend-Related Post For the Day

What, no boat shoes?

Something occurred to me over the weekend: Throw Me the Statue are the closest thing Seattle has to its own Vampire Weekend. Both bands are slightly, harmlessly preppy (with—gasp!—college educations to match), both make pretty and playful pop rock that balances wordiness and/or nerdiness with a not entirely chaste charm, both have a good ear for a hook and an arrangement, etc, etc, etc. This shared musical/aesthetic DNA is no doubt part of why I'm so fond of Throw Me the Statue.

(More on the Line Out-commenter-infuriating Vampire Weekend here and here.)

maybe TMTS is "Seattle Preppy" but they're hardly out of the same fashion playbook as VWs.

You forgot to mention that both are a black hole of creativity, and only sing for waspy rich white kids like yourself.

"waspy rich white kids like yourself."

A+++. I'll let my parents know what wealthy WASPs they are next time they're eking out their mortgage and credit card payments. I'm sure they'll be happy to hear the good news.

Make sure you make them turn down that vinyl copy of Graceland before you inform them.

Wow Eric, you really love the smell of your own farts, don't you? Seriously dude, you're the music editor. Expand your motherfucking palette.

wait a minute....

Grandys the MUSIC EDITOR? REALLY?

thats fuckin embarassing.

not that he's unqualified....its just that he has all the piss and vinegar of a music editor for the free weekly in, say, pensacola. just that he comes across as more excited to beat his chest and stroke his ego by repeating OVER and OVER how "against the grain" and unpredictable he is as an individual, as opposed to focusing on navigating the awesome music landscape of this city, and having thoughtful and unique observations on the dozens of acts that tour through here every week. its just small town shit, man....or in his case, rookie ass youngster shit.

yeah, he goes to alot of shows and reads pitchfork and brooklyn vegan. so do most of the people i know. what gives?

seriously. dude. we get that you like Vampire Weekend and like a 15 year old girl in a Judy Blume novel you "simply DONT CARE WHO KNOWS IT!!!"

now shut the fuck up.

@7: Embarrassing is definitely the word that comes up the most. This is Seattle, you think it would have some pretty kick ass coverage. Also, Seattle Weekly's music editor is no longer as of last week. Who knows what will happen there now, shame too as their section was actually getting better.

::yawn::

Vampire Weekend are a perfectly OK pop band. No one will remember them in 5 years, but they are fine for now. Eric is a perfectly acceptable music editor by Stranger standards. Everything he does is pretty much consistent with the Stranger template. Also adequate.

So why are you guys so bent out of shape about it? Move along. I dare you to start reading the Weekly. Talk about a terrible paper.. not adequate.

Grandy -- I totally agree with you on this one. Nevertheless, it's endlessly entertaining to watch you battle the troll hoardes of Slog/Lineout.

When I read blog posts like the one from Dave Segal about how the Shackles were reviewed in Wire, it makes me wonder why a local band has to get international attention before the Stranger writes about them. And then I scroll through Line Out and see ten posts on one page about how great this band, you may have heard of them, Vampire Weekend is.
