Do You Remember the First Time?

I was just reminded that Pulp released their debut album before the Smiths did theirs. WTF?! Doesn't that seem just historically impossible? But Wikipedia insists it's true.

The time between Pulp's debut on the John Peel show and any amount of real recognition is like five Brit band lifespans.

Historically Impossible? Apart from the location and time they began (a northern England being taken apart) the two bands have very little if anything in common....

Cosby's right. As anachronistic as it sounds, Pulp were originally known as part of Sheffield's early '80s new wave scene before they became conquering Britpop icons a decade later. A textbook definition of persistence.
