McGinn Likes Blue Scholars, Constantine Likes Common Market

Posted by Eric Grandy on Wed, Oct 28, 2009 at 3:59 PM

A group of 22 youth organizations recently presented a questionnaire to the candidates in the Seattle Mayoral and City Attorney races and the King County Executive race addressing issues important to area youth. In they mayoral race, McGinn responded to the questionaire and Mallahan didn't; in the city attorney race, Pete Holmes responded and Tom Carr didn't; in the King County executive race, Dow Constantine responded and Susan Hutchison didn't. No surprises here, but some fun trivia: the last show McGinn saw was Champagne Champagne and Zera Marvel; Holmes' favorite graffiti artists are Danny Melbihess, Joe Nicholl and Jeff Jacobson; Constantine's favorite local rap act (barring Sir Mix-a-Lot) is Common Market. You can read the complete Q&As here. And you can find the Stranger's Election Control Board endorsements (McGinn, Holmes, and Constantine, coincidentally) here.

Do you really think these suits actually listen to these bands? I have $20 on a younger staffers suggesting the answers on the survey. I'm not sure if we should be happy they are trying to appeal to the music community or cringe at how politicians will say about anything to get elected. I could give two shits about what current band a 50 year old politician listens to, I want to know how she/he's going to spend my tax dollars wisely.

@3 I saw Mike McGinn at the Reverb fest in Ballard and he loved Zera Marvel, in fact, they chatted for quite a while after the set. Then I saw him chatting with the lead singer from Champagne Champagne, who had called out to him during their set. So yeah, 50 years will surprise you!

@4- That's what you do when you're running for office and trying to get the music community to support you, show up at the very public music events. Before he was running for office how often did you see him at shows? Just sayin'.
