In my attempt to avoid posting the most obvious Halloween music video of all time*, I wanted to post Dusty Springfield's "Spooky." But not only is the 60s classic YouTube-nonexistant (Seriously? Like, not even a bad recording-of-a-recording of the song under a moving photo montage of Dusty press photos? Has YouTube let me down?); you can't even buy it on iTunes unless you buy the entire Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels soundtrack, which apparently I am too cheap to do.
So sometimes when you set out to find one thing, you find another. In this case, I stumbled upon The Puppini Sisters, an immensely talented and annoyingly-named Verve recording act. Uh, is it weird that I kind of love this? Especially the way they go "mmm-hmm-op" barely moving their lips?
Corny, yes, but GOD I'm a sucker for close harmonies, old swing standards, the Andrews Sisters, that scene in the movie Annie where the three girls sing about the toothpaste... Oh man. The Puppini Sisters also cover "Walk Like an Egyptian" and Beyonce's "Crazy in Love"??? Um. I LOVE THEM NOW.
Okay. Moving on to a video that evokes Halloween for me, without resorting to over-the-top spooky theatrics, here's Bat for Lashes' "What's a Girl To Do." Try to get your friends to recreate this on their fixies tonight.
And last but not least, here's a film excerpt that had you shitting your pants at four years old, that could probably still make you reconsider not becoming a born-again Paramore fan today (I mean you know, just in case there's a Hell, and liberals actually do go there). Betcha forgot about this one. Happy Halloween!
* I wanted to say "'hint: sounds like Darkel Klaxons Kweller' or 'Schmichael Shmackson's Kriller,' but is that even necessary?
