I'm a sucker for drummers that play standing up. Rachel Carns is my root.
Portland's
Explode Into Colors has TWO drummers. Only one of them stands up, but I'm okay with that because the one who sits down is wicked fun to watch. The band includes members of
Japanther and
Kickball and another who dances with postmodern choreographer
Janet Pants; ergo, the band's amalgamation of gritty guitar, video projections and movement lends their live show a multimedia feel. Lyrics? Yeah... those are hard to decipher but the songs muddy the waters of disco-punk and garage and make you wanna bop.
Explode Into Colors plays the Crocodile this Wednesday, November 11th. They're opening for
Mission of Burma, who have been cranking out post-punk since I was born and are no doubt worth seeing in their own right.
