Fringe Debuts at The Eagle

Posted by on Mon, Dec 7, 2009 at 2:52 PM

The Eagle is hosting a new dance night called Fringe. Friday was the inaugural party. Let it be known: It was awesome. At least right up until the guy in the final shot tried to stick his finger up my butt hole. Way to uphold the stereotypes, man.

Christ, if you don't want her at the Eagle, send her over my way. Phwooarr!

Yeah, seriously! I mean, I assume that this level of interest is exactly why Mr. Strangeways doesn't want girlz like that at the Eagle, but even he must appreciate her on some aesthetic level.

The Eagle? The Eagle in Seattle? The Gay bar? Are we talking about THAT Eagle? People that look like that go there now? Did R-Place burn down?

I'm sorry but this is way too clever for R-Place!

NOTHING has packed the Eagle like this in months. If you're lamenting the old leather bar scene, it's your fault for not showing up to keep it the way you wanted. The world is moving on - enjoy it or not.

sounds like y'all should get off your computers and strap on some leather and show us what's up this Friday!

people stopped showing up, fuzzybutt, when they stopped playing rock or edgy music and promoting any semblance of the events that would go on (if there even were any)... then the website disappeared and no one knew what was going on there ever... then the cops came through every night and got on their case for everything from porn on the big screen to a picture of a (gasp!) exposed penis on a calendar in the coatroom (thank you liquor board)... when it was good, we were there... they chose a new direction to bring in a new crowd instead of finding a way to bring back the haven for those of us that don't fit in at the Fluff or the Purr... easy way out? perhaps. and certainly within their rights. but the Eagle is a brand and should be represented thusly.... rather than bring back the "old leather bar scene" I would love to have a place that merges the leather bar concept with the alternative edgy gay dude vibe some of the bars in SFO manage to do in SoMa...

The party was amazing, the mix of people was perfect, a little bit of every scene and not one fucking problem. Everyone had a blast. What more could you ask for in a Party.

@14 Fringe! is "a place that merges the leather bar concept with the alternative edgy gay dude vibe".

All are welcome and ALL are encouraged to dress up or dress down

if you're a hipster, get ultra-hip
if you're a leather daddy, wear your BEST leather
if you're a glitter kid, DOUSE yourself in sparkles
if you're a bear, grow MORE hair
fashion designers and artists get cracking on some new threads
or if you just hate wearing clothes, come in your underwear!

That's directly from the flier......

Please come, lose the attitude and come have some fun.

I'll be the first to admit that I mourn the passing of the old Eagle... Maybe I didn't ever quite fit in, but it was always fun to visit- what with the discreet location, plethora of leather attire, and abundance of dark corners and red lighting for the seedy sexual escapades one could witness there any night of the week. I especially loved it because it was a gay bar that really only ever had gays in it... something about about it was always scared away the straights.

But that version of the Eagle has been dead for well over a year. After the constant harassment from police, and the closure of the strip of Pine bars that included the Bus Stop and Cha Cha/Pony, The Eagle was suddenly stranded away from most other gay bars with no outstanding features to justify going. It was truly sad to walk in there and be one of two people in the joint- so I'm happy they've found a nitch, and had the balls to run with it. It's infinitely better than watching the place die.

Thank you, 'unpaid commenter', because it's true, the eagle you all 'loved so much' was going to go under and close because you apparently didn't love it enough to actually go, sorry!

Yeah, well good luck with the weekly faux freak show - party is an interesting word - cause many of us go to the bars for a drink, conversation, mood, and frat boys with sparkles getting very messed up is not just our kind of party.

$3.00 cover - well now, big time spenders at the party. Were there booze drinks or just soda?

Be careful, if cops get all freaked by who cares sex stuff among old guys, they will really freak with the new crowd ...

Looking at the pix - is this still a gay bar?

I think not.

Which is too bad ... the Halloween all the time is bit much.

WALKMAN 21
there was plenty of diversity in the crowd... some big ol leather bears dancing + having a great time earlier in the night. dressing up for some is fun, but by no means was everyone in a krazy outfit.. it's a very INCLUSIVE environment as NARK + Capt Underpants say

we have a new city attorney and mayor who both support seattle nightlife, much moreso than over the last several years.

to all the haters- get more active in making space how you'd like to see it develop, rather than sitting in front of your dumb computers complaining all day

You know what, this party totally looks like the fun had at the Pony and even like many of the parties I saw at Vitos when they were throwing events. Frankly I have seen more people having unabashed QUEER fun at events like these then I did at most any night at the Eagle. In the past few years I've gone to the Eagle and what do I find, awesome music and no one there??? Maybe a few dozen people watching a couple play pool and then the corridor of people upstairs who pretty much just fuck you with their eyes. What I NEVER have seen there is dancing and if Fringe can bring that then more fucking power to them. The notion of a dark seedy bar where you can get your rocks off (and yes I have seen bareback ass fucking as well as a half dozen blowjobs there) is falling out of step because there are a whole generation of gays growing up feeling totally comfortable going out and dancing/drinking and kissing (even in the presence of girls Gasp!) and THEN going home to fuck each others brains out. Sorry if all those people having fun got in the way of your blowjob by a stranger....

Nark, did you bother reading my entire comment? Because if you had read the second paragraph you'd see that I actually approve of the change in atmosphere.

@18 lol... you're absolutely right that it would have went under... but there was a reason people stopped going as previously posted, wasn't b/c people didn't love it, they just changed what we loved... long before the debut of the dance floor...
who knows, i might check it out sometime... if they get Jackie Hell in there i'll skip in faster than you can shake a stick at...

oo I love all this. First of all 'unpaid commenter' yes I did! thats why I said thank you! I agree!

@22 love it. also .. off the record.. and just to prove all that wrong there ahem may or ahem may not have been some witnessed gay sex on the ahem dance floor and blowjobs on the ahem stairs (so I guess it's still pretty Eagle-y huh?!)

@20 pretty much every single person in all of those photos is gay (or trans or bi or extremely queer)

@21 totally! we can't say it enough that every gay/bi/trans/queer person of all walks and styles is welcome, as WELL as the straight people who support them/us and what we are doing, why would we ban people who love and support!?

@19 oh I really don't think I saw any frat boys because this ain't no bro party.

and @24 I have it on good authority that there may just be a special New Year's Eve performance by the miss Jackie Hell, but you didn't hear it from me!

I'm not opposed to change or progress or club kids having fun. If the Eagle wants to become "that" bar, then more power to it; however, it should change its name and not use the Eagle moniker if it's going to do this. "The Eagle" is a brand and carries with it some connotations that none of these pictures show. For instance, none of these costumes would get you past the bouncer at the Eagle in Minneapolis (we couldn't even get in wearing sandals in the middle of summer). If the Eagle wants to become SparkleBar or some other name that suits the people in these photos, then change the name already.

Hm doesn't anyone remember going to Vibrator back in the day or Muscle at the Eagle? Similar parties to this and not so much whining about Eagle changing the format. Confusing that people seem to forget of parties that did things years ago already - this party looks great and I don't think changing the name of the club or etc is really necessary. I'm sure the owners are happy to have people coming to their bar again and anyone that was still a regular there should be happy to have some company. I DJ'ed there a few weeks ago, well about a couple months ago before they reformated it and I played all sorts of dirty electro and etc - it was fun but there was like 3 people there - Its good to see an old venue getting a makeover rather then just getting torn down or left empty.

Why complain? Just dance it will be ok.. ;)
