Posted by on Mon, Jan 11, 2010 at 12:24 PM

Former Sub Pop prez Rich Jensen weighs in via Twitter on Friday night's epic Shabazz Palaces show:

Somebody has to say it: Neumos Friday felt like OK Hotel (April 17, '91) when an Aberdeen trio first dropped a song about teen deodorant. about 1 hour ago from web

(More Shabazz here, here, here, and here.)

Good Lord, can't something sink in for more than 5 seconds without resorting to immediate hyperbole/nostalgia? Regardless, bummed I missed it!

Good point retinariddims. Linking them to that band/ event from Aberdeen seems like a stretch.

Since I was at both shows, I feel qualified to offer at least a twitters-worth of opinion on the matter.

In my experience it doesn't take 5 seconds to feel the earth move.

Just sayin'.

And if you are not into hyperbole, why are you jabbering about pop music anyway?

And finally, how it is nostalgia if the best part is yet to come?

There are obviously many dissimilarities, but there are also these similars:

the very same old, mostly indifferent town; months of anticipation; work that acknowledges its production within a rich complex of artists, allies, fans and motives; the instantaneous sense that the sound nails a deep shift in the social world, and that it nails it with flamboyance and bravado.

I think they call'em legends 'cause it's how we mark the time.

I hope they do well. I think their sound is definately unique. I thought it was a poor choice to use the nirvana comparison. It's just an opinion. I'm glad music still moves people that way.
