Producer Watch: Oddisee

Washington DC-based MC/producer Oddisee has been absolutely crushing it lately- I'd first heard him on this Jazzy Jeff track from The Magnificent years ago, but recently caught his credits on joints like this J-Live heater; it was the Diamond District (Oddisee with MC's XO and YU) album In The Ruff that really hooked me though. It's a modern boom-bap masterpiece, proving Tha Alkaholiks' "2014" right- raw shit will forever survive. Just listen:

Oddisee also has been dropping these semi-instrumental collections every season for a minute now on his bandcamp: Odd Summer, Odd Autumn, and most recently Odd Winter are chock-full of jewels, stark beats that veer far left of his meat and potatoes Diamond District stuff alongside killer should-be singles:

"Telll The Truth" f/ Nikki Jean off of Odd Autumn

Today he's dropped the all-instrumental Traveling Man digitally; each track a sonic recollection of some time on the road. Here's one track from his time in the Sudan:

"Khartoum" from Traveling Man

I've heard some rumblings about Diamond District maybe coming out this way soon, I hope somebody makes it a reality this year before Oddisee blows sky-high.

Hell yes. He's great. Did you know he used to be in a group with Hudson Mohawke and Mike Slott, back when they were ripping off Dilla and sort of barely exploring the styles they do now, called "Heralds of Change"?
