[I’ll Give You a Break is a sporadic series of posts highlighting obscure (and not so obscure) breakbeats in unlikely places, so that they may be sampled by producers or just enjoyed for their own geeky purposes. NB: Don’t forget to clear all samples through the proper channels (cough).]
First 16 seconds of Ween’s “Springtheme"—a highlight from the sporadically brilliant Pure Guava—are like something from a mutant Al Green slow jam circa 1972. Suave sexytime gold for you budding lovermen and saucy alpha femmes fatale out there. Add that extremely stealthy bass caress, and you have the makings for a serious knee-trembler. Some slick MC needs to wax oleaginous over this passage—Fresh Espresso, perhaps?
