How Hard Did Liquid Liquid Kill It on Jimmy Fallon?

Posted by on Tue, Apr 6, 2010 at 11:40 AM

Very hard. Liquid Liquid's rendition of "Cavern" (augmented by Late Night With Jimmy Fallon house band the Roots) ranks as one of the greatest TV/music moments of the 21st century. Despite all the extra players involved, the song retains its essential spartan funkiness, bolstered by one of the most satisfying, undulant bass lines ever. You can view the April 2 performance here. Four drummers/percussionists, two bassists, and one Sal Principato on vocals, bongos, and (spanking?) paddle, looking fantastic after all these years? Yes, yes—put this on repeat. (Check out the original 1983 recorded version below for comparison.)
