The Birds In Your Garden, They All Started Singing This Song

Jarvis Cocker

While Jarvis Cocker continues with his weekly BBC radio show, he has just shepherded Time To Think, a free, downloadable, ambient-styled collection of chirp & footstep found-sounds for Britain's National Trust, which can doubly work, if you're into that sort of thing, as a helpful opposite to The Black Dog's recent Music For Real Airports.

'The Trust is famed for its care of some of the nation's most visually stunning locations; from castles and gardens to great swathes of coast and countryside, which are often promoted as havens of tranquility.'

NME reports:

The album features tranquil sounds recorded at various locations run by the Trust. Sounds include waves lapping on the shore, clocks ticking, and ducks flapping in water.

'I hope this album is a "holiday for the ears",' Cocker said. 'It's not really meant to be listened to intently, like a piece of music, but more as something to have on in the background to aid relaxation or contemplation.'

He added: 'Plus, you get to visit thirteen National Trust properties in the space of 30 minutes. No mean feat. I hope it has the feel of one continuous journey and conjures up an image in the mind's eye of the places featured. I also hope it could inspire the listeners to then visit the sites for themselves.'

Thanks for the tip. It's part of the wonderfulness of the Internet that a member of the National Trust who lives within walking distance of Ham House should find out about this little gem from a blog based in Seattle!
