In this week's Underage I talk a little bit about Grenades, the new Schoolyard Heroes/Kane Hodder hybrid that could possibly be enjoyed by folks who had no interest at all in the members' previous projects (they're heavier and, as far as I can tell, they don't sing about horror movies). They have played something like four (five?) shows in Seattle and a number of friends who've seen those shows have said they're really good and getting better (here's a recent video of them playing the Comet, in fact). They're playing the Black Lodge this Saturday night with Requin and Cold Lake, but really the whole reason I even said anything at all was because I wanted an excuse to talk about one of my new favorite songs, "Megan Seling Sucks."
My name is Megan Seling! And apparently I suck. At least according to People We Hate, an old Seattle band that I sort of remember. The reason I mention it is because one of the guys from that band is now in Requin (in the column I said two guys from PWH are now in Requin, but that was wrong—what can I say, I suck). I can't completely tell what they're singing in the song, but they sound angry so I'm guessing it's not very flattering. The song itself is a brash, fast, and sloppy rock tune and I like it.
That's okay, right? To like a song about how much you suck? It's ironic, or whatever?
Hear it here. And then go see Requin tomorrow night at the Black Lodge.
