Bumbershoot happens Labor Day Weekend, Saturday 9/4-Monday 9/6 at Seattle Center. Full press release after the jump

Seattle, WA — The 40th Annual Bumbershoot: Seattle’s Music & Arts Festival, taking place September 4-6 at Seattle Center, announces the 2010 music lineup. New this year, the Mainstage will feature one show per day with three headlining performers. Saturday, Bumbershoot kicks off the 40th Festival with legendary American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan. A musical icon whose influence spans five decades, Dylan remains one of the most prolific and influential musicians of our time. Rounding out the opening night of the Festival is the distinctive talent of Neko Case and indie folk rock sensations The Decemberists. Sunday night’s lineup showcases a triple bill of high-energy performances from alt-rock superstars Weezer, Hole and Rise Against. Monday night closes the Festival with Grammy Award-winning artist Mary J. Blige whose unique mix of soul, hip-hop and R&B continues to influence recording artists across the globe. Rap sensation J. Cole, the first artist to be signed to Jay-Z’s label Roc Nation, will take the stage Monday night with another very special guest to be announced in the coming weeks.

“Bumbershoot has a strong history of showcasing emerging talent alongside veteran superstars. This year for our 40th Festival, we’re excited to have artists that span more than four decades of phenomenal music,” stated Chris Porter, Programming Director for One Reel’s Festival Division. “With this roster of talent, we’re truly offering a music lineup that will engage and entertain people of all ages and interests.”

Another change to Bumbershoot this year is the Bumbershoot Standard Ticket that, for the first time, now includes guaranteed access to the Mainstage performances. This eliminates the previous process of waiting in line upon arrival at the Festival for a separate pass. Bumbershoot Standard Tickets are available in a limited quantity, so patrons expecting to see Mainstage performers are encouraged to purchase Standard Tickets early to ensure their spot in Memorial Stadium.

Bumbershoot also introduces a brand new ticket option, the Bumbershoot Economy Ticket, which grants the ticketholder access to everything at Bumbershoot except the Mainstage performances in Memorial Stadium. The Bumbershoot Economy Ticket is for those who prefer the programming found outside Memorial Stadium and throughout the grounds.

New for the 40th Festival is an additional outdoor music stage located at Seattle Center’s new Center Square, formerly the site of the north Fun Forest. Nestled in the shadow of Seattle’s iconic Space Needle and Seattle Center Monorail, and set against the backdrop of Experience Music Project, one of the city’s most distinctive architectural structures, the new outdoor Center Square Stage will feature music formerly found indoors at the Exhibition Hall.

In addition to the Center Square Stage, Bumbershoot also features five auxiliary outdoor music stages, three comedy stages, three performing arts venues, a film festival, visual arts exhibits, Flatstock, spectacle programming in outdoor open spaces, unique crafts, and Youngershoot: a family focused array of programming that will entertain kids of all ages.

Youngershoot returns as Bumbershoot‘s kid-focused “festival within the Festival,” providing music, hands-on activities, and arts programming the whole family will enjoy. A separate Youngershoot program will be available for download this summer, allowing parents the opportunity to plan their visit in advance.

Youngershoot musical performances take place on the Northwest Court Stage and this year include Caspar Babypants, Johnny Bregar, and Brian Vogan.

New this year, Bumbershoot increased the age children can attend for free from 5 and under, to 10 years and under. Free kids’ admission does not include access to the Mainstage. For detailed information on child entry and tickets, visit bumbershoot.org.

Hopefully the CHBP lineup announcement tomorrow will be better than this. Pretty decent headliners, but I expected a lot more given that they were making a big deal about the 40th anniversary of the festival. Still, I'll be going to see Dylan, Hole, the Decemberists and Neko Case.

matereaterlad...worst lineup ever? Holy Crap...

Apparently you haven't ever heard Bob Schneider - he's worth half the ticket price, not to mention Edward Sharpe, Plants and Animals, Dandy Worhols, Ra Ra Riots..etc.

And what about Laura Viers? Holy crappers she is good!

Although I have to agree that sasquatch lineup was much better. What up with that?
