This weekend's discovery: "Kyendi Kyendi." The jam, which is a collaboration between Uganda's Sylvester & Abramz and USA's Toki Wright, was discovered on the soundtrack of a movie playing at SIFF, Imani. What's made so clear by Sylvester & Abramz's cut, and also by one of the movie's characters (a breakdancer), is that hiphop is a technology that the global underclass must thank the black American genius for inventing. It is a technology that not only gives pleasure but turns some of the poorest people on earth into producers of pleasure: "Kyendi Kyendi."
