More Doppelgangery Hits Close to Home

Posted by on Tue, Jun 22, 2010 at 10:54 AM

Yesterday I did a bit of a double take when I thought I saw local solo act/friend-of-mine Secret Colors included in Pitchfork’s “forkcast.” Of course, upon closer inspection, it was actually just a track from Chicago’s Secret Colours* (who spell about as well as a couple of blind dudes).

What’s this? More NW acts with (more or less) identically named doubles out there, causing confusion for groggy bloggers**? With two Wet Paints, Walls, and Girlfriends running around, our grand total now weighs in at four local bands tangled up in this web of named-based redundancy. Are there any I'm not thinking of?

Secret Colours’ “Jellybean” is appreciably warm and trippy, but still, I wish it had been Seattle’s own Master of Mellowness getting the high-profile exposure instead.

Secret Colors’ Lunar cassette is currently down to its last ten copies, and you can order it today from Spokane-based label/distro operation Leftist Nautical Antiques.

*Complicating matters, there is yet another Secret Colours, also with the olde spelling.
**“groggers,” obvs.

Ah, good call. How could I have forgotten Emeralds? Esp. when the (non-NW) record is sittin' so well with me?
