Tactown's
Fice with a video to his backyard's sureshot summer anthem, directed by
Eric Soderquist. No Neko Case cameo (even still, that savvy intro sample just guarantees love from scores of folks who wouldn't have ever listened otherwise) but plenty of faces familiar to anyone hip to the Tacoma rap scene-
Jay Barz, EvergreenOne & Todd Sykes, Island Trybe, and many movers/shakers. The song itself is a no-frills, all-heart litany of blocks and avenues I've mostly never been to, yet it makes me feel like I'd spent many a listless Sunday afternoon kicking gravel there, looking for something to get into. Making people give a shit about your hometown is no easy task, but it's a necessity for any rapper worth his kicks, and the prime directive for one from the barely-known Northwest. It's a lower-budget answer to
"Home" and
"The Town" that charms and beams with that certain kind of weary, "
don't fuck around" pride that reads to me and my slim but sweet collection of 253 experiences as
pura Tacoma. Cascadian hiphop rock rock on.
