Hunting Parties Rears Its Head... Again

Posted by on Thu, Jul 29, 2010 at 5:06 PM

July 30th brings to Seattle the primitive beast of a music festival known as Hunting Parties. It's like the most known, unknown bands of hardcore, punk, and and weirdo music playing across five venues in three days, and if you're in Seattle this weekend you are one lucky person.

With legends like Portland punks Resist and Rhode Island crust lords Dropdead, to newer bands like HC Minds (ex-Yob) and Nerveskade, this fest is guaranteed to melt your face all the way off. Mike Crow, founder of the fest and owner of Seattle label Inimical Records, sat down and talked with me a bit about it...

When did you start Hunting Parties? Last year, right? How did the idea for it come about?

Hunting Parties started last year, the idea came about in the midst of a near blackout on New Year's Eve. I had probably been thinking about it before, and I asked someone from Oroku if I put on a fest, would they do a reunion show and, with a shitload of work, it fell into place. I used DIY venues and it went really well, so I decided to do it again this year.

The line-up this year is awesome, are there any bands that you're particularly excited about?

I am excited about the whole fest of course, but there are certainly highlights. From the Friday night Morgue show, I'm excited to have the Estranged playing, hopefully they play something off the new album, and to have Arctic Flowers back up here. They're my favorite band of the last year or so. On Saturday I am stoked for Portland legends Resist at the Morgue during the afternoon, and Dropdead playing Neumos that night. On Sunday I think the highlight will be Wehrmacht returning to Seattle after 20 years. That should rip. The only thing I am not looking forward to is the recovery on Monday. I hope people make it out.

Next to Chaos in Tejas, this is one of the best fests in the US.

keep your fucking business-driven promoter bullshit out of my DIY scene please. $20 to see Dropdead is a fucking joke.

They're flying out for this date, not on tour. I imagine that's pretty expensive.
