Prince Rama's "Raghupati"

Posted by on Mon, Sep 20, 2010 at 11:20 AM

The highlight of Prince Rama's great new album on Animal Collective's Paw Tracks imprint, Shadow Temple, is "Raghupati." This is epic, devotional psychedelia; listening to it, I can't help feeling humbled and awed by its majestic beauty. The song just keeps swelling and swelling, until it feels as if it's going to engulf the entire fucking universe in a blissful, loving vibration—oh wait, it just did. For these reasons, "Raghupati" is, by my carefully considered reckoning, the best song ever (this week). (You can watch a live version of it here.)

It's a shame that Prince Rama will be playing with AC's Deakin at Vera Project Sept. 23, which is during Decibel Festival, to which I've committed 100 percent of my time for its duration. Let's hope they return to Seattle when one of the world's best electronic-music fests isn't happening.

It's worth seeking out for the album artwork alone...
