Considering his recent high praise for the Cult, you would think that Mudede would want to hear what the Cult has been ripping off for all these years.

oKay -- So you may not see a direct link from the Misfits to the Cult, but yous would have to be tone deaf to not hear how similiar Glen Danzig & Ian Asterbury singing styles are.

Ian Asterbury = Dave Vanian, Any Danzig connection...meh, I dont buy it. No one outside of the underground cared about the Misfits really till Metallica wore those skull shirts constantly in 1985. And that Asterbury usta dress like Adam Ant...the Southern Death Cult even sounded like early Ants.

oKay -- One more time, ever notice how the Cult became a pseudo Hard Rawk/Metal band on "Electric?" produced by Rick Rubin, who at the same time was signing Danzing to his own record label.

You may be right about the Cult's original sound, but it was like once they were introduced to Rubin and consequentlty Danzig's musik, they changed their whole playbook. Throw in a little AC/DC, and you've got "Electric" all summed up.

Keekee - I completely follow your (comparing them in 2010) logic, and sure they do sound kinda similar, but the scope of Danzig's pop influence in the mid'80s was quite slim...and as for coincidence of a Rubin/Cult/Danizg thing, well, Ian was singing in The Cult in 1985 (on Love) the same as he did in 1987. The Cult didn't connect w/Rubin until 1986 and Electric was issued in spring of '87. The Danzig S/T came out in 1988...it was that summer...maybe, I remember it was hot out when people had it on the tape deck. That was also when all the early '80s punks were creeping into slower/heavy, so for Danizg to finally make the jump makes sense since most everyone that was still at it had slowed down and gone heavy (late Samhain was kinda getting there). SO...Rubin's involvement w/Danzig was AFTER the Cult...um, if anything the case could be made for Rubin making Danzig sound like the Cult. Perhaps.
Anyways...when Electric came out NO ONE made any connection to Danzig via Rubin, or via anything. In fact, no one that listened to the Misfits or Samhain gave one shit about the Cult, they were a joke (even my Hair Metal friends had em sussed) as an exploitation group, that MTV single was an obvs Rolling Stones/Zep/ACDC rip off, it was transparent the Cult were tailored to make hits, they were a pop band.
