Dear Puyallup Fair...

You cant even afford Kid Rock!
  • Ah ha ha! You can't afford Kid Rock!
Much like The Showbox, your prices are ridiculous. The Puyallup Fair has come and gone, and once again, just like last year, I didn't even see one single show. Seeing a live show at the fair, amongst the smells of both the elephant ears and animal barns, should NOT cost an arm-and-a-leg. Seeing a show at a fair, after riding The Zipper, and then eating a corn dog should be affordable.

I would have LOVED to have seen Willie Nelson (decent seats? $50). Or even Heart ($60)... or it woulda have been kitschy-dumb-fun to go see fellow Detroit-er Kid Rock ($85). But no such luck. I couldn't afford any of those. Maybe next year.

More, from the Puyallup Fair (parking lot) here.

Willie tours pretty regularly, still, and chances to see him in bleacher seats for 30'ish bucks aren't THAT hard to come by.

I can't speak for Heart prices or *eck* Kid Rock, but seeing Hall & Oates for 40 bucks was worth it for me.

A few years ago, I paid something like $45 to see the B-52's there. A few months later, I was in Phoenix and they played the fair down there, where the concerts are FREE when you pay your $8 admission to get in to the fair. You can upgrade to floor seats for $20 or something, but the bleacher seats are free with paid admission. I like that a lot better.

I saw Willie at the Lane County Fair (Eugene) in 2000 (the day after Cheap Trick.) I didn't even pay $10 to be on the floor (I was in the free bleacher area), but he still spotted my big pink hat and it somehow made it onto his head. I think General Admission to the fair was $8. So that's what I paid to see Willie and have him wear my hat onstage.
