Willow Smith: "Whip My Hair"

Posted by on Wed, Oct 20, 2010 at 4:01 PM

Will Smith's kid's video was posted yesterday and already has more than 2.6 million views. I think it's safe to say popularity is guaranteed.

This is SO much easier to listen to than your standard fare kiddie pop music out there, even if you somehow hate the girl or pop music in general, at least the beat is kickin' and doesn't go overboard in the myriad of obnoxious ways that are possible. This gives me a glimmer of hope for the next generation of radio pop, this song at least doesn't make me want to spoon my eardrums out.

I'd like a fourth option:

this is the sort of thing that makes me hate children.

Not for the likes of me but this type of thing never was, even when I was a youngster. I'm sure I was brain washed by commercialism in other ways though.

Clearly this kid is being packaged and sold by dad’s marketing machine but whatever. It seemingly costs me nothing. So I shrug it off.

That said, does this mean they will be playing this endlessly on Kube? Oh, NOOOOOOOO...!!!!

Willow? Seriously? I'm all for nepotism but narcissism not so much.

Bauhaus I 9
Usually, when a sound like this comes into my ear, I swat at it.

Are the Smiths Scientologists yet? And why are Will and Jada always making their entrance like King Arthur and Guenevere? Seriously. Like outstretch arms, her hand resting on top of his.

It wouldn't be hard to find a cuter, or more talented, kid to throw that much money at. Daddy owes a lot of people favors now.

I blame this on Scientology.

And Jaden is named after Jada Pinket Smith. If you want narcissism I'll point you toward George Foreman.

"Foreman has 11 children, and each of his six sons are named George: George Jr., George III, George IV, George V, Keenen and George VI. His four younger sons are distinguished from one another by the nicknames "Monk", "Big Wheel", "Red", and "Little George". He also adopted a daughter, Isabella Brandie Lilja (Foreman), in 2009."…

It's... strangely compelling. I mean I don't actually like it or anything, but the kid can sing and she can dance. The music's a cut above most hip hop and the production values don't overly sexualize the Are You There God It's Me Margaret set. I think she's one to watch.

It is just as egotistical for them to name the male kid Jaden as it is to name the female Willow. I used to think Wm. Smith was alright. Whither that cocky but charming ingenue?

Props to the producer for the kicking song/beats that any famous child could've made a hit.

when she pulls up? In what? little kid can't drive. It's obvious that this is a prewritten catalog song.

I find it incredibly disturbing how hard the Smiths are working to make their kids stars. First Jaden, now Willow?
