Who Else Lost Records to Flood Waters?

Posted by on Mon, Dec 13, 2010 at 12:26 PM

I'm SO sorry Derek.

Most of them were sitting in a basement room where I now live. AND THEY WERE NOW UNDERWATER.

That is awful, awful news...even if you don't listen to 'em much.

I lived in a basement for two years in the late '90s. Luckily, the house was on a steep hill, and rainwater must have ran down the hill too quickly to seep in, so my place never flooded. Still, as a precaution, I kept my record shelves 6" off the floor. Where I live now the cellar floods, yesterday it reached about two feet deep (with at lest one rat corpse floating around in that stew) but as I've lived in the same place for 12 years I certainly expect it. I store nothing, for sure no records, in my cellar. Anyways, I heard of at least a couple other folks who lost (some) records to basement flooding. Hope that was an exception, not the rule. Anyone else?

In 1997 Grand Forks, ND was nearly wiper off the face of the planet. I was issued a Red Cross Refugee number and lived in a tent for 5 months. It was the largest peacetime evacuation prior to New Orleans. lost a couple records.
