New Label Alert: Voodoo Reverb

Posted by on Tue, Jan 11, 2011 at 2:14 PM

Voodoo Reverb is the project of two former college DJs who’ve pooled their musical savvy and started up an ultra-DIY mixtape label. Their first and second mixes—Voodoo Reverb Vol. I: Let Me Play with Your Poodle and Voodoo Reverb Vol. II: Ladies and Gents—are currently in stock at both Wall of Sound and Sonic Boom’s Capitol Hill location for under $4.

Vol. I focuses on raunchy old blues, R&B and rockabilly tracks (and heaven knows old blues songs can be dirtier than sin), and Vol. II consists of two gendered sides of pre-‘60s cuts (Side A is lady vocalists, Side B is gentleman vocalists. Hello, Women’s Studies). Vol. II is currently available as a free download on the snazzy looking Voodoo Reverb tumblr, which has a bit more info on the fledgling homespun label.

I can personally vouch for these gals’ taste, so if your interest is piqued, go snag a cassette.
