  • Robert Palmer: I may feel slightly sad, but I won't cry.

Dear Robert Palmer, I'm really sorry that you died at age 54 of a heart attack. I'm also sorry that there was a bitter dispute over your $46 million estate between your children and your girlfriend from Ohio, whom you met while she was a waitress in California. Though you must admit that it was rather nice of Tina Turner to cover "Addicted To Love" as a tribute. But about that song, why did you write it? It essentially ruined 1986 for me, as I spent most of that year glued to MTV and had to change the channel to The Last Dragon on Cinemax each time your execrable video appeared. And all of those geisha/Patrick Nagel women, how were they supposed to shape my idea of females as a teenager? Also, about the line in "Simply Irresistible" that goes, "she's so fine, there's no telling where the money went", how is that supposed to make me feeling about trusting other people? Good looking people can just take your money? And even before that, you were trying to ruin Duran Duran by taking the best members and covering T. Rex songs? You know, I take it back, Robert Palmer. UNHAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU.

But what about the sword sound effect that goes SCHHIINNNGGG! in Simply Irresistible? Hard to argue with that.

Remember that time Robert Palmer did a medley of ZZ Top and Husker Du? Not too shabby.

It's crazy for you to suggest that Andy Taylor was one of the two best members of Duran Duran. The Arcadia album is better than the Power Station album in every way.

I never liked how people would confuse him with Robert Plant. Come on, that is ridiculous.

As much as you hate Robert 'The Batley Belter' Palmer, you HAVE to admit that this is a CRUCIAL jam that holds up - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BxL5P_A0…

A man blessed with hot pipes who wore only custom clothes and an offhand air of self-mockery was tough for us MTV kids to fathom, but worth the effort. Fucking CLUES @7 yes.

Dudes, I don't hate Robert Palmer. I was being anti-biased. You know, for the news.

I'm still curious if the Palmer Girls were his pallbearers.

Agreed that pre-Power Station Robert Palmer was occasionally ahead of its time.

Always misreported, the dispute was between the manager and the children, the girlfriend was in the middle of the mess. Oh yea, Power Station's cover scored higher on the charts.
