Sasquatch! Announce Party at Showbox at the Market

Posted by on Sun, Feb 6, 2011 at 9:05 PM

I have arrived. Still drunk from the Stupor Bowl. I am in the VIP area, where a bottle of Budweiser costs $5, Lindy can't taste any gin in her gin and tonic, and we are immediately accosted by the Pop Chips girl. Das Racist sound pretty nice.

UPDATE: I changed my mind. The sound kind of sucks tonight. There are lots of girls with short shorts (it's fucking cold out!

Foo fighters chromeo, guided by voices, wolf parade, beach house , wheedle's groove, modest mouse, bright eyes, death cab, Ratatat, cold War Kids, Pink Nartini, Archers of Loaf, Wilco, Flaming Lips, the drums, Das racist, black mountain, and a whole bunch more bands that I was too drunk to type on my phone. Robyn! Jaill,Major Laser, decemberists, yeasayer, best coast, smith westerns, a lot more . Flying lotus sleigh bells, fits & the tantrums, mad rad, deer hunter

Pop Chips taste like styrofoam, there's probably no gin in Lindy's g&t and really short short girls you're going to look even more attractive with snot running out of your nose from the colds you'll catch tonight.

Mad Rad owned Das Racist. And you missed the drunk barely 21 couple dry fucking-it went beyond humping-on the dance floor. In a few years, nay, months, that girl will be mortified she let that creepy little Asian dude put on a display in public like that. Also, why would you expect to get alcohol at the Showbox? It may be a great venue, but they've become corporate as fuck. I flask it. Every time.

I don't mean to be a dick, and I'm sure Grant is a nice guy, but ... honestly, Stranger ... this is the new music editor?

I think Grant is doing a perfectly lovely job.
I'm consistently entertained and informed.
Thx.

Hey Grease Wizard. Sorry your feelings are hurt. You are a powerful anonymous commenter. Thanks for playing.

@9 I'm sorry, Grant. As I said, I'm sure you're a rad dude. I don't mean to hurt your feelings. But this (and Line Out in general, Segal excepted) have seemed a bit ... amateurish since you took over. It's a whole lot less interesting and polished than it was, say, three months ago.

Call me crazy, but I don't want half-assed texts from a "still drunk" person at a party and then a poll about what readers think of the lineup. I want to know what the lineup is (in full, with at least some attention to detail, correct spellings, formatting, etc.), and I would love to hear what The Stranger's music writers/editor think of the lineup: headliners, mid-sized names, hidden gems at the bottom of the bill, and so on. Instead we get "Pink Nartini" and "a whole bunch of more bands that I was too drunk to type on my phone."

But what do I know? For all I know The Stranger has changed its focus when it comes to the music coverage, Line Out, etc. I suppose it's entirely possible the internet's clicking community clicks more on drunken phone rambles and polls rather than cogent thoughts, analysis and reporting. Which is a bummer.

But again, it's nothing personal. I'm just saying, from my vantage point, you seem like you were the wrong choice for that job.

Grant's a light-weight judgmental dick who wishes the girls in short shorts would give him attention. Instead he bitches like a middle-school hipster instead of actually enjoying the positives (mad rad) and stop whining about the negatives. Get someone real to write, please.

I like Mad Rad fine. I just missed them because I was live Slogging the Super Bowl.

I saw Mad Rad on their recent tour with Champagne Squared.

Good energy, but I think the songs just aren't there.

In my humble opinion, Mad Rad was the only group to bring the high level of energy to get the crowd involved. I almost fell asleep watching Das Racist. The Thermals were pretty good, too ...
