The Way Of SpaceGhostPurp

Posted by on Wed, Apr 6, 2011 at 9:00 AM

Via a Tumblr tip from OFWGKTA's Syd Tha Kid, I came across the bizarre stylings of Miami's SpaceGhostPurp, who sounds something like a Based Three Six Mafioso. Numbed-out ign'ance, chanted over e-tarded tape-hissonance barely identifiable as "beat"; it all conjures images not so much of space, but of molly'd out teen trappers in a post-apocalyptic urban wasteland, recording shitty mixtapes in burned-out short buses, stealing government wifi to upload them to Dat Piff. The kids, especially the ones pushing the boundaries of DIY pharmacology, are going to eat this shit up. I kinda can't help but like anybody who's strictly on some Raiders snapback hat shit and would title a song "FUUCCCK TAYLOR GANG". Rap's future indeed just gets odder and odder.

"Me and my girl chopped a 1/2 gram of molly into 4 lines last night and we each inhaled one. rolled balls for 5 hours straight. pure love and cuddles all the way."

Larry, a real question for ya: I'm afraid I like this more than any other hip-hop released this year that I've heard.

What are your favorite 2011 releases so far, either real deal or mixtapes or whatever? Last year was my favorite hip-hop year ever, and this year I ain't found nothin' yet.

I did download the Pusha and Krit mixes but haven't had a chance to listen.

the Shabazz Palaces album isn't out yet- but that one takes the cake, eats the cake, then comes back to the scene of the crime for the cash and the jewelry.

The Pusha tape is underwhelming, the Krit tape is pretty good, the E-40 is good but there's soo much of it to listen to. There's a good Camp Lo/Pete Rock mixtape out. Locally, tapes from Havi Blaze and Avatar are winners...if I were you, I'd also check for the Helluvastate album:
