This Saturday Is Record Store Day!

Posted by on Tue, Apr 12, 2011 at 11:26 AM

Record Store Day is this Saturday, and a bunch of local shops are participating in the action. You can see a full list of special releases (there are hundreds) at (Not every participating store will have every release, so you may have to check the store's website for more information on their selection.)

There are also a bunch of free and all-ages in-store performances and signings happening around the city. Here's the complete schedule (as we currently know it... have more? E-mail me!)

  • Telekinesis
Easy Street Records, Queen Anne:

Peter Buck of R.E.M. (signing only) at noon
Duff McKagan's Loaded at 2 pm
The Head and the Heart at 7 pm

Easy Street Records, West Seattle:

Grieves & Budo (signing only) at 3 pm

Silver Platters, Queen Anne:

Massy Ferguson at 2 pm
Zoe Muth at 3 pm
The Tea Cozies at 4 pm

Sonic Boom Records, Capitol Hill:

Moondoggies at 1 pm
Telekinesis at 5 pm

Sonic Boom Records, Ballard:

The Head & the Heart at 3 pm

Also happening: Silver Platters has 15% off all regularly priced items; Sonic Boom will take 10% off your entire purchase if you bring two non-perishable food items to donate to Northwest Harvest and the Ballard Food Bank; Jive Time's got 20% off all records, CDs, and DVDs; Porchlight Coffee and Records will let you have a free bargain LP with the purchase of any used LP; and Wall of Sound will be giving away one pair of tickets to the sold out Fleet Foxes show.

Dozens of other local stores will also be carrying some (or all) of the RSD releases, including: Everyday Music, Georgetown Records, Radar Hair & Records, Bop Street Records, Platinum Records, and Jigsaw Records.

UPDATE: There is a NEW record store opening just in time for RSD2K11! It's called Spin Cycle, and it'll be located at 321 Broadway on Capitol Hill. Their grand opening day will be April 15th, and the owner of the store and all the staff are the same folks who ran Gruv, which closed without warning in December. Happy Record Store Day!

I'll be at Silver Platters catching Zoe Muth and Tea Cozies. Then I'm making a mad dash to Easy Street for Head and the Heart.
