The New Neptune?!

Posted by on Thu, Jun 23, 2011 at 9:29 AM

King County Executive Dow Constantine is on KUOW RIGHT NOW, he's talking about King County biz, natch, BUT the host, Steve Scher, opened up the segment talking music. Constantine remarked about having seen Mark Lanegan at the now-its-a-music venue the Neptune and how the sound was amazing. I know this past MONDAY Megan had a picture post, but no one commented...was anyone THERE?! How did the show sound? I saw the pix, now I WANNA READ A REVIEW. Own up time...c'mon! Anyone?!

I saw Okkervil River play an afternoon KEXP show on Saturday. The sound was, um, not amazing. But not awful, either. Definitely better than the sound quality when SIFF used the theater to screen movies. So, an improvement!

Maybe it was better for a full house and not being mixed for the radio? Or maybe Okkervil River's new album (which I like!) is kind of noisy and was just meant to sound like it was being played underwater?

Did they take the chairs out, or do you have to sit?

Conrad, they take shows out for some shows, and put them in for others, as far as I understand it.

The KEXP show was the padded folding chairs. Looks like they had them for Mark Lanegan but cleared the floor for Okkervil River. The balcony seats seem awfully permanent, which is probably good for safety given the slope of the floor up there.

I totally remember that steep upstairs. We were smuggling beers in to see Akira once and I dropped one and it rolled quickly away, past everyone. I was so sure I was gonna get busted, but no one seemed to care at the old Neptune.
