Youth Crew Tuesday: Uniform Choice "Screaming For Change"

Posted by on Tue, Aug 9, 2011 at 9:28 AM

If you like Straight Edge Hardcore (& who doesn't?) then Uniform Choice's Screaming For Change LP is among the classics to which you're already hep. This version of "Screaming For Change" is off of the band's 1984 demo, released two years before their classic LP of the same name. Though most music from Orange County can be dismissed as totally awful, Uniform Choice still holds up to their East Coast contemporaries of the same era, though everything went downhill after 1986. I still think that youth crew anthems still offer the best life advice, simply see the lyrics to "Big Man, Small Mind." HOLY F.

Alas, I never chose to use my head, I only ever chose to lose my head, in a bottle of Mickey's.

I remember the first time I heard this LP, it was the FIRST HC album that had that much BASS in the mix...I was stunned. Its so good, and it still holds up...the record seemed more about pushing back than living on any edge...we all screamed for a change, man. Now the kids just want you to SPARE some change (zing!). WEAK.

This shit is as weak now as it was then. They used to have t-shirts that said "Drugs & Booze, Sure Way To Lose" and "Straight & Alert" and then Dubar grew his hair and formed Mind Funk. Very dark times. Thankfully, Crucial Youth were there to mock it all.
