There's a group of people that come to Mad Rad shows who throw tortillas in the air. They are "The Tortilla Guys." Very early on in this Bumbershoot Mad Rad set, the aerial tortillas were there. They fly through the air in unpredictable routes due to their limply nature. They land and sometimes someone will take a bite then throw it back up in the air. Sometimes one lands on your head, or hits you in the face, and you think, "Oh, The Tortilla Guys threw a tortilla in the air, and it has struck me in the face." Today, P Smoov asked The Tortilla Guys if he could have beans and rice thrown as well. Shortly after, a full burrito wrapped in tinfoil landed onstage. It was placed on Darwin's DJ table where it sat unmolested until the end of the set. After the show, we were breaking down, and the burrito's thrower appeared and asked, "Hey, can I have my burrito back?" The burrito was handed back to him. Later, I saw him in the merch line eating it, thus making the cycle complete. The burrito left him, then returned. Like the Swallows of Capistrano. Or a salmon.
