The Desperate Bicycles: "Cars"

Posted by on Thu, Sep 22, 2011 at 12:51 PM

Last night at about 8pm I was driving down Madison with my wife in moderate traffic when out of nowhere a guy on a bike came speeding from a perpendicular street dodging through all lanes of traffic like Frogger. Emily remarked that at least he was wearing a helmet, but was then surprised that it wasn't fastened. He hopped a curb and pulled up to Jimmy John's, where it seemed like he might have been working.

With all of the horrible news about cars & bikes lately, I've been thinking a lot about this anti-car song by the Desperate Bicycles. I drive a car most of the time, but it's usually full of pieces of wood that I couldn't carry on a bike.

SO MUCH CRAZY BIKING LATELY! This city needs better bike lanes (or just some bike lanes period) but also bikers need to cool it with the dumbness. And cars need to be more careful. And busses are way to big for the tiny Seattle lanes. And $2.25 is way too expensive to take a bus that shows up willy nilly whenevs. And gas prices are way too high. And walking is hard with all these hills. And scooters are neat but don't go fast enough.

I don't know why we can't just use rolling inside of giant truck tires as a mode of transport. CAN WE GET A ROLLING IN A TIRE LANE ASAP?

"No, doc, I mean it! Just take my feet OFF and install wheels. You do what I say! THAT'S WHY I'M PAYING YOU."
