Originally, an Aqua-lung was a useful piece of underwater breathing equipment invented by some French guys. "Aqualung" is also by a song by Jethro Tull about a dirty, snot-dripping, pedophilic homeless man which reached #7 in the US charts in 1971.
Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson explained the song in a 1999 issue of Guitar World magazine: "The idea came about from a photograph my wife at the time took of a tramp in London. I had feelings of guilt about the homeless, as well as fear and insecurity with people like that who seem a little scary. And I suppose all of that was combined with a slightly romanticized picture of the person who is homeless but yet a free spirit, who either won't or can't join in society's prescribed formats."
This live version though, HOLY WHOA. I'm not sure what to think about it, but I keep playing it on repeat. Also, I've been really depressed for the last two days.
