Fall Video of the Day: "Marquis Cha-Cha"

Posted by on Fri, Nov 11, 2011 at 10:07 AM

Not as much a video as much as a just a picture of the record cover while the track plays, this brilliant song has a special place in Fall history as being released as a single by Kamera Records and then immediately withdrawn.

Recorded during the best Fall lineup (including both Hanley brothers) in 1982, "Marquis Cha-Cha" was supposed to be released as a single by Kamera during the release of the Room to Live LP. Allegedly Kamera didn't have enough money to issue the single on time, but released it in a batch of 200 a year later, after the Fall had already signed with Rough Trade. Contracts were reviewed and Kamera was told to stop the presses. The B-side lists the forgettable "Papal Visit," but actually plays "Room to Live." This single rarely comes up for sale, but when it does, it fetches some pretty good money.

Hidden messages in the run-out wax: A-side "Our lads are a bunch of twats" / B-side "Give us room to live: sack John Bond"
